Salvation Army reaches goal in Red Kettle Campaign

Despite a late Thanksgiving and unusually brutal weather, the Salvation Army of Milwaukee County managed to surpass its Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goal of $3.5 million over the holidays.

The organization received donations totaling nearly $3.6 million.

“Thank you, Milwaukee, for your generous support. A successful Red Kettle Kickoff at the Public Market; a first time Red Kettle Match Day in Milwaukee, supported by the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation; a successful Celebrity Bell Ringing Day; outstanding bell ringers; and a host of volunteers and Christmas season events all made for a wonderful and successful 2013 Red Kettle Campaign,” said Maj. Dan Jennings, Salvation Army divisional commander for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. “Along with expanding programs and service, contributions made during our annual Red Kettle Campaign will ensure that the critical needs of the unemployed, underemployed, homeless and others who are often overlooked and underserved are met.”

Here are a few ways The Salvation Army was able to help those in need during 2013 with donations made during the 2012 Red Kettle campaign: lodging at the shelter; meals for the homeless; meals to children during the summer; emergency food through the pantry; toys to children for Christmas; and gifts to children of incarcerated parents for Christmas.
