Portage and Brookfield office equipment firms combine

Office supplies
Rhyme and Anden distribute office supplies and equipment.

Brookfield-based Anden Business Systems has been acquired by Portage-based Rhyme, an office equipment, supplies and information technology services provider.

The asset only transaction closed June 1. Financial details were not disclosed.

Rhyme has 80 employees at locations in Brookfield, Sheboygan, Madison, Portage, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Wausau, Janesville, Richland Center and Rockford, Illinois.

Anden was an independent sales and service dealership providing office equipment and service to small businesses, schools and churches. It had three full-time employees, including Carl Kunzler, who founded the company in 1976 and owned it with his wife, Dorothy. Kunzler will retire, and one of the employees has joined Rhyme, he said. The Anden office location will be closed.

“With this merger, our customers will continue to be treated fairly and serviced by a family owned organization that puts customer needs above everything else,” Kunzler said. “Rhyme has a strong team, and we are excited to help them grow and expand their customer offerings.”

Rhyme is a top 50 Elite dealer of Sharp products, and Anden also worked with the Sharp line, Kunzler said.

“I was doing largely the same manufacturer service as Rhyme, basically. That was their primary business,” he said. “They were just looking for my book of clients.”

Rhyme executives were not available to comment on the transaction.
