Rexnord Corp. is starting to slowly move 120 of its employees into its new downtown Milwaukee office, according to city records. Rexnord is moving some operations to the office building at 105-111 W. Michigan St. The news first broke in February last year that the company planned to move some of its operations there. Since that time, contractors have worked to renovate the building for its new tenant. The developer and building owner is Klein Development Inc. Rexnord is now starting the process of moving in its employees, with only 10 people moving in at a time and eventually leading up to about 120 people. That's according to a letter filed recently with the city by Fond du Lac-based contractor C.D. Smith. Rexnord will occupy nearly 152,000 square feet of space on floors 1-5 and 8-10 in the building, according to city records. Some construction work will continue while the move-in occurs. According to the letter, remaining work includes installation of emergency lighting and sound alarms in certain areas. The work is expected to finish July 16, the letter states. Milwaukee's Department of Neighborhood Services anticipates Rexnord will achieve full occupancy around the end of August. The time frame gives flexibility to the company and contractor as they finish up construction work and the move-in process, said DNS spokesperson Steph O'Conner. Rexnord didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Klein Development acquired the building last year for $14.4 million from Town Realty Inc., an affiliate of Milwaukee-based Zilber Ltd. Klein Development also had a hand in developing the headquarters for Rexnord's Zurn Industries division in the Reed Street Yards business park. The 105-111 W. Michigan St. building was formerly occupied by Fortis Management Group, until it closed down its operations in 2018.
