The year-long project to restore the façade of 153-year-old Iron Block building at 205 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee is nearing the completion. The restored building, which has been covered during the restoration project, will be completely unveiled on Monday, June 17.
However, the Water Street side of the building has already been unveiled.
“The color and detail are amazing,” said Mark Demsky, Dental Associates’ architect. “This is one of the top five historic buildings in the state. It’s the last standing iron building in the state. It’s a very cool building.”
Located at the southeast corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Water Street, the five-floor, 50,000-square-foot building sits at a prominent location in downtown Milwaukee. The building was purchased last year by Dental Associates, which will move its corporate headquarters from Wauwatosa to the building and will open a dental clinic in the building. The company will have 30 corporate office employees and 20 dental clinic employees in the building.
FedEx will remain the primary tenant on the first floor of the building. The Dental Associates clinic will occupy the mezzanine level and some space on the first floor. The Dental Associates clinic will occupy the second and fourth floors of the building. The third floor of the building will be leased to other tenants.
“We’re in negotiations with one,” Demsky said. “There could be multiple tenants on the third floor.”
With the exterior restoration project nearing completion, Dental Associates will now begin a six month restoration project for the interior of the building, said spokesman Darin Schumacher.
Then the company will move in with its corporate office and clinic, he said.
“We’re very excited,” Schuacher said.
