New data released Thursday confirmed that February was a horrible month to travel through O’Hare International Airport, which suffered the highest rate of late arrivals and late departures among the busiest U.S. airports.
Only 63 percent of departing flights at O’Hare pushed back from the gate on time and 66 percent of flights arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival, which is the window permitted to count flights as being on time, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. O’Hare placed last in both categories among 29 airports in the rankings.
The poor overall performance in February was a topper to days in which the airlines cancelled hundreds of flights at O’Hare due to snowstorms in the region or elsewhere.
Midway Airport fared much better in February for on-time arrivals, with 83 percent of flights parking at the gate on time, for a 10th place ranking. But only 73 percent of flights departed Midway on time in February, landing the Southwest Side airport 27th place.
