Regional manufacturing growth slowed in January

The Milwaukee-area manufacturing sector’s growth slowed in January, according to the latest report by the Institute for Supply Management-Milwaukee.

January’s seasonally adjusted Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was 51.31, down from 52.15 in December.

A PMI above 50 indicates expansion.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, indices for new orders were up 5.2 percentage points to 56.73, backlog of orders was up 7.9 percentage points to 50 and imports were up 5.9 percentage points to 59.52.

Supplier deliveries dipped 4.9 percentage points to 49.26, inventories fell 4.5 percentage points to 43.1 and exports fell 1.3 percentage points to 52.5. The blue collar employment index fell from 52.7 in December to 47.8 in January, on a seasonally adjusted basis, but the white collar employment index rose from 60.2 in December to 60.6 in January.
