Real estate profile: Tom Treder

retail broker, Commercial Property Associates

Company: Commercial Property Associates

Title: retail broker

Education: UW-Whitewater – BBA Finance-Emphasis in Commercial Real Estate

City of Residence: Milwaukee

Family: Single – girlfriend Erin

Hobbies and Interests: "Golf, Basketball, Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers"

What are you working on? "Leasing existing shopping centers, selling a few pieces of land and filling the pipeline for the second half of 2009 and 2010."

How does the market look to you? "Cautiously optimistic for 2009. Limited new development activity and only a few national retailers looking to expand in 2009, but there are still deals out there to be done and getting done. We are learning how to be more creative and going back to the basics in Real Estate 101!"

What was the best deal you have ever been involved in? "The Shoppes at Brookfield Commons – Bluemound Road and Moorland Road in Brookfield.  Re-developed a former auto dealership on 4 acres and built a high quality 43,000-square-foot retail center. It “only” took about 2 years in the (sometimes painful) planning process, but in the end it was very educational and a great deal for the team that was involved in the development."

What was the funniest moment of your career? "I took a client from Milwaukee to Green Bay for a site tour and we stopped for lunch in Green Bay. When we came back to my car after lunch, the car wouldn’t start. My starter picked the worst time to malfunction and ended up having to get it towed to a repair shop, renting a car and driving back to Milwaukee and then back to Green Bay the next day to pick up my car."
