Home Industries Real estate profile: Mark Schnoll

Real estate profile: Mark Schnoll

partner/owner, Inland Companies Inc.

Company: Inland Companies Inc.

Title: partner/owner

Education: Bachelor’s degree, UW-Madison, 1982

Family: Wife, Julie; daughters Samantha, 8, and Sophie, 5; and dog, Frisco.

City of Residence: Bayside

Hobbies and Interests: "Downhill skiing, snowshoeing, golf (badly), travel to mountains and beaches, hiking, educating myself and collecting and consuming French wine."

What are you working on? "All kinds of land and building deals, several developments, a residential subdivision."

How does the market look to you? "Very strong, many opportunities, all kinds of deals there for the chasing. I laugh to myself when people say the market is slow."

What was the best deal you’ve ever been involved in? "Sold a 14-acre parcel of land for a build-to-suit, during construction sold the deal to an investor who then flipped it for a substantial profit, but everyone involved in the deal – broker, developer, contractor, investor all profited very nicely. The end user had three landlords in a month’s time. He had a hard time figuring out where to send the rent check."

What was the funniest moment of your career? "I’m in a building with an Asian family who are all speaking rapid fire Chinese or some similar dialect and while they are furiously talking back and forth, the main member of this party has, shall we say a “Gas-X” moment, proceeds to relieve himself as he saw fit and never stopped talking or gesturing whatsoever. I still have the scar in my tongue from biting it so hard. I did, however, sell the building to him."
