Real estate profile: David Buckley

vice president, Colliers Barry Inc.

Company: Colliers Barry Inc.
Title: vice president
Education: Colorado University School of Business, Boulder, Colo.
City of Residence: Delafield
Family: Sweetheart, Julie. Dog, Woody. Cat, Kitty.
Hobbies and Interests: "Cooking, telemark skiing, old cars, competitive sailing, gardening, woodworking and hunting.
What are you working on? "Land acquisition for the world headquarters for Harken Yacht Fittings Inc. Marketing of the First Industrial Park in Menomonee Falls, the West Bend Corporate Center, the former Welsh Bindery in New Berlin, 8 acres of industrial land in Pewaukee, up to 70,000 BTS in Hartford, a 61,000-square-foot building in East Troy, 16 acres of development land in Germantown, 30,000 square feet of office space at the former Corporate Express in Wauwatosa and a Stickley style cherry china cabinet in my spare time."
How does the market look to you? "Best year ever."
What was the best deal you have ever been involved in? "Sale of the 914,000-square-foot West Bend Company (building) in West Bend. This complex had 17 buildings built from 1910 to 1959. Kevin Barry and I introduced two unrelated interested parties when it was clear that neither one was going to take on the project. Each of the parties had different areas of expertise, and that synergy created a partnership for them to purchase the facility. The City of West Bend came on board to create a $6 million TIF which resulted in a mixed use residential/commercial development adjacent to downtown. The property which sold for $5.5 million is predicted to have a value of $90 million within 10 years."
What was the funniest moment of your career? "Upon arrival to a showing in December while unlocking the door I heard the sound of running water. The landlord had a contractor remove a vault in the building and in the process they shut off the gas without turning it back on. The temperatures dropped and the pipes burst so I walked thru 6 inches of water to get through the warehouse. The prospect did not buy the building and the landlord had one heck of a water bill."
