Brookfield-based MLG Capital, part of the MLG family of companies, is renovating Meadowood Plaza in Madison, located at Raymond Road and Whitney Way on the city’s east side. Recently demolition began on 11,000 square feet on the building’s east side, which was formerly occupied by UW Health and Best Cleaners. In its place, MLG plans to build a 15,555-square-foot Walgreens store. In addition, MLG plans to create a new façade for Meadowood Plaza, and build a new parking lot and install new landscaping. Redmond Construction is the contractor for the project. Best Cleaners will move to a larger space within Meadowood Plaza.
Brookfield-based Shorewest Realtors said it closed more than $69.5 million in sales at its Mukwonago office at 1231 S. Rochester St., which has been open for one year. The office was previously located in Eagle and closed $47 million in sales in 2005 and $24.8 million in sales in 2004. When the office opened in Mukwonago, 18 sales associates serviced the area. Today, one year later, the office is home to 30 full-time, professional sales associates. "Our office is already looking forward to another record-breaking year," said Pat McGinnis, sales director of the Shorewest Mukwonago office. "We’ve already passed last January with over $7.4 million of sales and 23 units compared with just over $3.7 million in sales and 17 units in January of 2006."
Lakeshore State Park, the newest attraction on Milwaukee’s lakefront, will open on June 20. A community celebration for the park’s opening will be held on June 23. An open house was held recently at the Milwaukee Public Market to provide an update on the park’s construction. The 17-acre state park will be located east of the Summerfest grounds and south of the Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin site. The park was first created during the 1980s with stone debris from the deep tunnel sewer project. Since then the site has been used for fishing and hiking, but the property had no amenities. In 1998 then Gov. Tommy Thompson made a proposal to convert the site into a state park. The plan was approved by the state’s Natural Resources Board in 2001. A bridge will allow pedestrians to access the park from the north, near Discovery World. The park will have boat docs, a fishing pier, a pebble beach for launching small boats, a short grass prairie area, a walking path and a lawn area. Future plans includes a 2,500-square-foot "green" building with a visitor’s center and restrooms. The trail at the park will connect to other lakefront trails, as well as the Hank Aaron State Trail and the Oak Leaf Trail.
Two Milwaukee office complexes, the Plaza East Office Center and the Honey Creek Corporate Center recently received awards in the Midwest Northern Regional TOBY (The Office Building of the Year) competition at the BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association) International Winter Business Meeting. Plaza East Office Center, 330 E. Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee, won in the 250,000-499,999 square feet category. Honey Creek Corporate Center, 135 S. 84th St., Milwaukee, was awarded in the Suburban Office Park Low Rise category.
