Race for city treasurer picks up

Two state senators could be on Milwaukee’s ballot next year to replace longtime city treasurer Wayne F. Whittow, who announced his retirement last month.
State Sen. Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) announced his candidacy for treasurer on Tuesday.
After that announcement, Sen. Spencer Coggs (D-Milwaukee) said he was leaning toward a run in the spring.
“I’m 95 percent there,” Coggs said, adding he would make an announcement next week about a possible run.
The race will be this spring, so neither lawmaker would have to give up his seat for a run.
Former state Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass and Rick Kissell, who lost several times to Whitthow, already have registered for the race, according to the Milwaukee Election Commission website. The election is set for April.
