‘Pull out all the stops’

Mike Mallwitz is president of Busch Precision, a 105-year-old Milwaukee company that specializes in machining large and precise parts, component repair and replacement, machinery repair and rebuilding services. He believes strongly in core values. Without the daily commitment to proper ethics, no business can expect long-term survival and success, he says.

“Honesty and respect for your associates, customers, suppliers/vendors and business advisors is the foundation to build and maintain a successful organization. The interdependence that is required on a regular basis is essential to meet deadlines, achieve demanding specifications and stay within budget and can only occur with a unified, trusting team approach.

“Dedication to others takes a selfless approach. Every customer is ultimately concerned with receiving an effective solution to their project. Often they face intense pressure from supervisors and/or customers. Organizing the correct resources is often challenging. Networking with other businesses, staying current with technology (internet, social media, etc.), educating, creating and maintaining a company culture of customer service and definitely keeping an open line of communication with your customers will ensure an effective solution. We owe customers a ‘pull out all the stops’ effort. Resting on past laurels is a huge mistake. Instead, be motivated by a ‘what have you done for me lately’ approach as you begin each day.

“Lastly, each business that employs the aforementioned principals will need to show humility when success is achieved and celebrated. It is important to share credit among the parties involved in each project…’we, not me.’ Negative outcomes should be viewed as an educational opportunity designed to achieve positive future results. Ultimately, dedication to teamwork that features honesty, respect and humility will bring success to your organization and its customers.”
