Public Policy Forum to focus on impact of Walker budget

The Public Policy Forum will present a panel discussion on “Wisconsin’s New Budget Paradigm: Will it Help or Hinder Milwaukee’s Economic Competitiveness?”
    The panelists will include:

    • Gary Grunau, president, Grucon Group.
    • Rich Meeusen, CEO, Badger Meter Inc. and chairman, Milwaukee 7 Water Council.
    • Jill Morin, CEO, Kahler Slater and co-chair, Greater Milwaukee Committee Quality of Life Committee.
    • Daniel Steininger, co-founder, BizStarts Milwaukee.
    • Donald Sykes, president and CEO, Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board.

The discussion will be moderated by Steve Jagler, BizTimes Milwaukee executive editor.
The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place Thursday, May 12, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Italian Conference Center in downtown Milwaukee.
The event is being done in partnership with the Waukesha County Business Alliance and the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. It is being organized by Rob Henken, president of the Public Policy Forum, who said the panelists will discuss the impact of Gov. Scott Walker’s state budget cuts on the region’s ability to compete for jobs and economic development.
“Will holding the line on taxes and taming the deficit – combined with other elements of the new administration’s economic agenda – enhance efforts to attract new businesses and encourage start-ups? Or, will potential cuts in education and local services impede economic growth? On balance, will the revolutionary approach to balancing the state budget help or hinder efforts to grow our local tax base and compete in a 21st century global economy?” Henken said.
The fee to attend the luncheon is $40 for Public Policy Forum members and $50 for non-members. To register to attend the event, visit www.publicpolicyforum.org and click on “Events.”
