A Primebar restaurant will open this spring in a 12,000-square-foot space in the ground floor of The Mayer Building, located southeast of Water Street and St. Paul Avenue at the entrance to Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
The space was previously occupied by The Institute of Beauty and Wellness, which moved to another Third Ward building in 2011.
The building, with an address of 342 N. Water St., is owned by Pieper Properties.
Primebar is a restaurant chain owned by Glenview, Ill.-based Restaurants America. The Milwaukee location will be the fifth for Primebar. The other locations are in Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas and the Tampa, Fla. area.
“We are very excited to be in the Third Ward across from the Public Market in a great building and space,” said Roger Greenfield, president of Restaurants America.
Primebar is described by Restaurants America as an “urban lounge” serving gastropub fare, and a “moderne day ale house” with 40 varieties of beer on tap.
“We are excited to welcome Primebar to Milwaukee and especially to The Mayer,” said Ann Pieper Eisenbrown, owner and president of Pieper Properties. “It will be a terrific addition to the Third Ward as well as greater Milwaukee. The warm, contemporary décor and sophisticated fare will appeal to power lunchers and dinner dates as well as offer private dining room for business and social events.”
Marrianne Burish and Cory Sovine of Siegel-Gallagher Inc. brokered the deal and represented Pieper Properties in the negotiations.
