Pratt invites county executive candidates to bus tour

Interim Milwaukee County Executive Marvin Pratt announced today he has invited both candidates for county executive on a Milwaukee County Transit System bus tour.
Pratt said the move was designed to help the candidates – philanthropist Chris Abele and state Rep. Jeff Stone (R-Greendale) – understand the issues of the people who ride the bus.
“It’s important to keep in touch with the community, and riding the bus is one way to do it,” Pratt said. “You see a woman with one child in her arms and one on her hip going to the doctor’s office and you realize this is the only way some people have to get around. As you drive by in your car, it’s easy to forget those who use the bus.”
Pratt will ride the No. 23 Fond du Lac bus with Stone beginning at the MCTS headquarters, 1942 N. 17th St., and end the ride at Fond du Lac and Congress. The ride will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
“I think it’s important for both Mr. Abele and Mr. Stone to know what’s going on in the city and the county,” Pratt said. “Riding the bus is one way for them to find out.”
Pratt said Abele will not be able to accommodate the invitation.
Pratt hopes to make both candidates aware of issues not only in the inner city, but also those affecting the transit system and its funding. Pratt and Stone will be accompanied by MCTS Managing Director Anita Gulotta-Connelly.
