Potawatomi launches 2016 ‘Heart of Canal Street’ charity program

Names of 10 charities to receive money announced

Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee announced the names of 10 charities that will receive money from its 2016 “Heart of Canal Street” charity event.

The “Heart of Canal Street” program, formerly known as “Miracle on Canal Street,” raises funds for organizations based in southeastern Wisconsin that serve kids. Since 1994, Potawatomi has donated nearly $16 million to charities in southeastern Wisconsin through the program.

Money has been raised primarily through special bingo games played at the casino each August through December.

The 10 charities were selected by the charity initiative’s media sponsors.

Here’s a list of the organizations and their media sponsor:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee—presented by Lamar Outdoor
  • Food Pantry of Waukesha County—presented by WITI FOX 6
  • Jewish Family Services—presented by Milwaukee Radio Alliance
  • Kathy’s House—presented by iHeart Media
  • Milwaukee Public Museum—presented by OnMilwaukee.com
  • Northcott Neighborhood House—presented by Milwaukee Radio Group
  • PEARLS for Teen Girls Inc.—presented by Entercom Radio
  • SHARP Literacy—presented by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • The Parenting Network—presented by Clear Channel Outdoor
  • Wisconsin Humane Society—presented by CBS 58/Weigel Broadcasting

Another group of 21 organizations will be randomly selected by Potawatomi from a pool of applications to receive money later this fall.
