Petitions call for Southridge to relocate bus stop

Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik is spearheading a campaign to convince Simon Property Group, which owns Southridge Mall in Greendale, to move a county bus stop back to the mall entrance.

The company recently decided to move the bus top 1,000 feet from the mall doors, making the mall less accessible for the elderly, the physically impaired, disabled veterans and other transit users, Jursik said.

Jursik staged a news conference at the Kelly Senior Center in Cudahy Thursday to form a new team to “Get on the B.U.S.S.,” which stands for “Bus User Safety at Southridge.” The group then rode the bus to the new Southridge bus stop. They took the walk to the mall in frigid temperatures, and for some that walk took more than 10 minutes.

Jursik then was able to meet with mall management, delivering a letter signed by the County Board opposed to Simon moving the bus stop. To read that letter, click here.

“I am hoping my meeting with mall management will be just the beginning of a dialogue about this dangerous decision,” Jursik said. “We can’t allow the safety of thousands of bus riders to be jeopardized by the choices Simon Properties has made.”

The group is circulating petitions to ask Simon Group to move the bus stop back to the mall entrance.
