Panera Bread Co. plans to build a restaurant at Point Loomis Shopping Center in Milwaukee’s Southpoint neighborhood.

The 4,300-square-foot restaurant would replace a former Boston Market building, located at 3511 S. 27th St. Loomis Point LLC plans to demolish that stand-alone structure to make way for the new development, according to city documents.

The Panera Bread restaurant would include a drive thru and outdoor seating. The St. Louis, Missouri-based company also plans to add six parking spaces to the east side of the drive thru as well as more green space and landscaping to the property. And it has proposed to replace existing signage with a “pedestrian-friendly monument sign with base plantings,” according to city documents.

Panera has requested to deviate from the design standards established by the Loomis Centre Development Incentive Zone as some of its plans conflict with the retail center’s overlay.

Point Loomis is located on a 14-acre site at the southwest corner of South 27th Street and Loomis Road. It has a 80,731-square-foot Kohl’s store, a 76,129-square-foot Pick ‘n Save and a 3,673-square-foot Chase Bank branch building on an outlot. It also includes Office Depot, Michaels and Marshalls and newer tenants Ross Dress for Less and AT&T.

Milwaukee’s Plan Commission will discuss Panera’s proposal at its meeting today.
