Easter Seals selects Greendale boy as national representative
Kyle Mayer of Greendale, was recently selected as National Child Representative for the Easter Seals National headquarters.
Every year Easter Seals selects children and adults receiving Easter Seals services around the country who are willing to share their stories. The representatives speak to their independence and how Easter Seals services, staff and volunteers have helped them attain personal goals.
“Kyle’s story is about hope, help and answers for a young man on the autism spectrum,” said Bob Glowacki, chief executive officer of Easter Seals Southeast WI.  “Kyle’s inspirational story and year long journey as our national representative will help others better understand and bring more awareness to the critical need for supports, like early diagnosis and intervention therapies, for children living with autism and other disabilities.”
Through their stories, the Easter Seals Ambassadors teach a national audience about Easter Seal services and what it’s like to live with a disability, Glowacki said.

Salvation Army benefits from local partnerships.

The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County has partnered with Cricket Wireless and Target Corporation to assist with its annual Christmas campaign. Cricket has donated telephones to assist with communication efforts between organizers and volunteers located at Salvation Army Red Kettle locations.
“We are grateful to Cricket for understanding our need and providing telephones for our annual Christmas Campaign,” said Major Robert Thomson, Divisional Commander for Wisconsin & Upper Michigan.
Donations to Red Kettles will sustain critical services and programs such as Toy Shop, Christmas Family Feast, emergency shelter, medical, food pantries, and meals to the homeless and care to our military veterans.
Target has agreed to donate $1 up to $400,000 for anyone who purchases a Target GiftCard of $20 or more in the store or online between now and Nov. 20.

Organizations reach out to women in the community

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee recently partnered with Manpower, the Sojourner Family Peace Center and the Social Development commission to host Ready. Set. Work; a free one day job seminar designed to empower unemployed and underemployed women in the community. Approximately 100 women from the United Way’s partner agencies participated in the event. Manpower experts conducted sessions on resume writing, job searching, interview tips and social media in the work place. A fashion show of clothing from Bottomless Closet and Diva/Divo, organizations that provide free work appropriate clothing to people in need also took place at the event.
“An increasing number of families are led by single mothers or women who are the primary or co-breadwinner,” said Nicole Angresano, vice president of community impact for United Way of Greater Milwaukee. “It is critical that our community comes together to provide women access to the training and skill-building preparation they need to secure a job that pays a family-supporting wage.”
