Tammy Muckerheide, vice president of commercial underwriting at West Bend-based West Bend Mutual Insurance, is credited with transforming the company’s underwriting process.
“Under Tammy’s leadership, West Bend has developed an innovative approach to streamlining the underwriting process for small commercial lines business,” said Shelley McGrew, marketing communications manager at West Bend Mutual.
Known as “West Bend Express,” the approach leverages data and analytics to quicken the underwriting process for small commercial lines ($500-$5,000), resulting in the underwriting process being completed in just 15 minutes, McGrew said. The company is currently achieving one hour or less with this approach. As a result, West Bend can process thousands more applications annually.
“Not only has Tammy been a driving force for the digital transformation of our underwriting process, but she encourages innovation at all levels, encouraging team members to think creatively and try new approaches without fear of failure,” said Marc Emery, vice president of commercial underwriting at West Bend Mutual.
