Notable Marketing Executives: DeVona Wright Cottrell

Class of 2024

DeVona Wright Cottrell joined GMR, an experiential marketing agency based in New Berlin, as chief legal officer and general counsel in August of 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“She started with immediate impact which continues to this day,” said Ian Abston, founder of the Hoan Group and co-founder of Light the Hoan. “DeVona jumped headfirst into culture-building and mentorship of her team and others at GMR. She is a visionary leader, a values-driven collaborator, and tireless advocate for women.”

Wright Cottrell, with her team and the 200-plus “storymakers” at GMR, set up the legal and business infrastructure necessary for GMR to deliver hospitality, consulting and experiential programming for global events, such as the 2023 FIFA World Cup and 2024 Paris Olympics.

“There is not a stone left unturned in this process, from entity formation, developing best practices, evaluating insurance needs, developing the contracting process and negotiation and consulting with the business and finance teams internally as well as with parent company, Omnicom Group,” said Abston.
