Notable Leaders in Higher Education: Kimo Ah Yun

Class of 2025

Kimo Ah Yun, Ph.D., was unanimously elected the 25th president of Marquette University by the Marquette board of trustees in November. Ah Yun served in the dual roles of acting president and provost since June 10, following the death of former president Michael Lovell.

Ah Yun is the first person of color to lead Marquette. He joined Marquette in 2016 as dean of the Diederich College of Communication, was named acting provost in 2018 and then permanent provost in 2019.

“Marquette University, under President Ah-Yun’s leadership, has positioned itself at the intersection of important trends and crucial connections to our constituents,” said Andrew DeGuire, Keyes Dean of Business Administration. “We are an institution with nationally ranked programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and incredibly capable faculty. Our president’s vision has been instrumental in creating a student experience that creates new leaders who possess both technical excellence and a broader understanding of the world.”

In his nearly six years as provost, Ah Yun focused on enhancing community and belonging campuswide, according to Christopher Stolarski, Marquette’s associate director of university communication.
