Beth Borgen’s tenure as president of Lakeland University in Sheboygan county is marked by partnerships and a focus on entrepreneurship, according to David Gallianetti, Lakeland’s director of external relations.
Joining Lakeland in 2005 as assistant director of alumni relations, Borgen climbed the ranks to eventually be named the school’s 18th president in January 2021.
She has led several initiatives, including expanding Lakeland’s Cooperative Education program, which allows LU students to earn up to 25% of their academic credits by working full- or part-time jobs at partner companies; launching a dual-enrollment partnership with the Sheboygan Area School District, in which high school students earned more than $2 million in college credit during the 2023-‘24 school year through free access to Lakeland Concurrent Academic Progress Program courses; and leading the creation of Lakeland’s Life & Career Studies program, which provides a college experience to adults between 18-25 who have intellectual disabilities.
In addition, Borgen serves on the boards of RCS Empowers, Big Brothers Big Sisters Shoreline, St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan Chamber of Commerce, and the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp.
