Dora Clayton-Jones, Ph.D., brings more than three decades of nursing experience to her classes, research and advocacy work. As immediate past president and current board member of the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates, she champions awareness for youth living with sickle cell disease. She also raises funds to support their academic aspirations.
Her POSSE Project is a research initiative funded by a $450,000 fellowship grant from the University of California, Davis to improve quality of life for Milwaukee residents ages 18 to 20 living with sickle cell disease. Clayton-Jones also teaches at Marquette University and is an adjunct faculty member with the Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin.
“One of the primary responsibilities of a nurse is to advocate for patients who need it,” said Jill Guttormson, dean of the Marquette University College of Nursing. “Dr. Dora Clayton-Jones puts this principle into action in every facet of her professional life. Her work drives positive change in the classroom and through policy that impacts the entire state.”
