Northern Trust donates $50,000 to Our Next Generation

Northern Trust Corporation has gifted $50,000 to Milwaukee-based Our Next Generation as the wealth management firm celebrates its 125th anniversary.

The nonprofit organization, which provides tutoring, social support and development programs to area youth, was one of 26 organizations worldwide to be selected as a funding recipient during the firm’s anniversary.

In choosing nonprofits to support with anniversary gifts, Northern Trust sought missions centered on improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged children. The firm conducted an employee-led review process to pinpoint beneficiary organizations.

“We have spent much of the past year celebrating Northern Trust’s 125-year history, from its founding as a local institution to its current position as a trusted global financial services provider,” Northern Trust chairman and chief executive officer Frederick Waddell said in a press release.  “I’m proud of our ability to invest in the lives of young people and to help them fully reach their potential. Education is an issue that affects all of us and is critical to building successful families and communities.”

The firm’s gift will be a “transformational” one for Our Next Generation, said La Toya Sykes, president and CEO of the nonprofit.

“The vision and opportunity provided by Northern Trust is a prayer answered, which will help us run another successful summer camp program,” Sykes said. “We greatly appreciate the financial resources and the employee volunteerism that our Northern Trust friends provide Our Next Generation.”
