  • Friday, Aug. 20  The Brewers wives will host a special VIP experience event at the Gehl Club in Miller Park before the Milwaukee Brewers take on the San Diego Padres. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., proceeds from the event will support the Sojourner Family Peace Center’s programs designed to heal families suffering from domestic abuse.Guests can mingle with the Brewers’ wives and partners while enjoying ongoing activities including Brewers Trivia, a Gemstone Dig, raffle and a silent auction. Gene Mueller will emcee the event, which also includes premium, buffet-style food and beverages as well as Gehl Club seating for the game. Tickets for the event are $125 per person.   • Saturday, Aug. 28 The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin will host its Walk & Run for Wishes along Milwaukee’s Lakefront. The 5k walk, run and wheelchair raise will raise funds to help support the wishes of Wisconsin children. Vince Condella, chief meteorologist of WITI-TV FOX6 will serve as honorary chair. Guests will be able to enjoy live entertainment from The Screamin’ Cucumbers, face painting and a kids’ dash, all at the north end of the Henry W. Maier Festival Grounds.   • Thursday, Sept. 2 The UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education will host a free seminar discussion titled “The Language of Nonprofits" from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The discussion will provide basic knowledge of concepts and language of the nonprofit sector. The seminar will examine what characteristics define a nonprofit organization, how the nonprofit sector is different from business and the government sectors. The seminar is free to attend.
  • Thursday, Sept. 16 and Friday, Sept. 17 Ryan Persitza of KKOM and Commercial Realty Advisors and Kenneth Wolfe of Raymond James Financial in coordination with www.workingbikes.org will host a three day bike drive to benefit and provide bicycles to charity organizations in the Gulf Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Angola, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, and Peru. Those interested can drop off a used or unwanted bite at the Petit National Ice Center from 4 to 7 p.m. or at the Urban Ecology Center on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Working Bikes ships donated bicycles to countries where they can be used as a primary means of transportation. The organization also provides detailed plans on how to convert bicycles in to machines used for pumping water, generating electricity for ultra violet water purification or for attaching grinders for food and farming.
