  • Thursday, May 10 The Center for Communication, Hearing & Deafness (CCHD) will be hosting an 85th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with its annual Gardens Luncheon fundraising event at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The luncheon will feature author and gardening expert Melinda Myers. Craig Culver, CEO and co-founder of Culver’s Restaurants will receive the CCHD Community Innovation Award for his commitment to philanthropy and equal access for persons with disabilities.
  • Saturday, May 12 Danceworks will host its annual Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap competition presented by the Bradley Center. More than 2,200 students from 43 local schools will participate in the sixth annual competition, which begins at 10 a.m. Modeled after the successful New York City schools program featured in the hit documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, Danceworks MHBT teaches life skills and impacts school engagement by integrating tap and ballroom dance classes into the regular school curriculum. Students receive 24 hours of instruction from professional teaching artists over the course of 12 weeks. The majority of schools participating in the program are located in low-income neighborhoods of the city. The event is free and open to the public. Visit www.danceworksmke.org for more information. 
  • Saturday, May 19 The Friends of St. Aemilian-Lakeside, together with Park Bank and Willis will present Cirque du Sal, an Invitation to Fascination, benefiting children, families and adults served by St. Aemilian-Lakeside from 7p.m. to 12 a.m. The event, will be held at the Historic Pritzlaff Building, 333 N. Plankinton Ave., and will include aerial dance, street entertainment, music by The Five Card Studs, a raffle and more. Saz’s will provide catering and a cash bar.   • Saturday, May 26 The state of Wisconsin will celebrate Ten Chimneys Day and the Ten Chimneys Foundation in Genesee Depot will offer 200 free tours of the National Historic Landmark estate. Ten Chimneys Foundation is offering these 200 complimentary tours as a “thank you” to the community and the state that have supported it. Each guest is treated to the full “Ten Chimneys Experience” and is also invited to attend a special cake, coffee, and champagne reception at 9:00am. The State of Wisconsin recognizes May 26th of every year as Wisconsin State Ten Chimneys Day, paying tribute to the historic significance of Ten Chimneys and the ongoing impact of Ten Chimneys Foundation.  May 26 also marks the 90th anniversary of the marriage of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne (1922), the anniversary of Ten Chimneys’ opening to the public (2003), and the anniversary of Ten Chimneys’ dedication as a National Historic Landmark (2004). Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.  With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s.  The tours will be given away through a drawing on Wednesday, May 2nd and will be valid for Ten Chimneys Day on Saturday, May 26th. To Enter: Visit TENCHIMNEYS.ORG/TCDAY2012 and complete the online entry form before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd.  One-hundred entrants will be randomly selected to receive 2 complimentary Full Estate Tour admissions, regularly $35 per person, for Saturday, May 26.  Entrants may also call (262) 968-4161 ext. 205 to complete a form by phone. One entry per household.  Households that won tickets in 2011 are not eligible.
