*Wednesday, Jan. 8, and Thursday, Jan. 9, the Burleigh Street Community Development Corporation will hold Landscape Training Initiative Orientations to spread the word about a new program that will feature four months of paid training in landscape maintenance followed by connection with potential industry employers. Individuals considering the program must be a resident of Milwaukee, at least 18 years old, have a high school degree or equivalent, and have a valid driver’s license among other requirements. The orientations are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, located at 2342 N. 27th St. in Milwaukee. Registration is required. *Wednesday, Jan. 15, the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee and the Southeast Wisconsin Intergenerational-Interracial Community Connection will present the third session in its Racism & Generations Series. The session, titled “Exploring Race Relations in Milwaukee,” will feature a discussion among Milwaukee residents and community leaders about current race relations in the city and solutions to ongoing issues within race relations. The discussion will be guided by a panel with participation from Harriet McKinney Mandelman, formerly of the Milwaukee Jewish Council; Jeff Roman, of the Community Advocates Public Policy Institute and the City of Milwaukee Equal Rights Commission; Emilio De Torres, of the ACLU of Wisconsin; and Amardeep Kaleka, a Sikh Temple member and the co-founder of Serve2Unite. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Red Cross, located at 2600 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Milwaukee. *Thursday, Jan. 16, the Neighborhood House of Milwaukee will host its inaugural Chili Cook-off as part of its January Family Fun Night. Along with the cook-off, the event will feature hands-on arts and crafts, roller skating, and open computer lab time. *Friday, Jan. 17, the Milwaukee Art Museum will host “MAM After Dark: ¡Baile!” from 6 p.m. to midnight. The event, presented by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, will feature Latin dancing with a live Latin jazz band playing salsa, merengue, cha-cha-, boleros, and bachata music. The social event will also feature music by DJ Slym, salsa and margaritas, a “Dance Through the Galleries Tour,” a photo booth, a “Do It Yourself” art studio, and more. Admission is free for museum members. Attendees who join at the door can also get in for free with a friend. Admission for other guests is $9 in advance and $14 at the door. *Saturday, Jan. 25, Above & Beyond Children’s Museum in Sheboygan will host its seventh annual Ice Golf Tournament on Wood Lake. During the fundraising event, which takes place during Winterfest in Kohler, participants will use racquetballs to play nine holes of ice golf on Kohler’s frozen Wood Lake. Event tee times run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $160 per foursome, which includes tee time, Titleist ear bands, a chipping contest and a team photo. Reservations are required.
