New Walmart store in New Berlin opens

A new 152,000-square-foot Walmart store opened today at 15205 W. Greenfield Ave. in New Berlin.

The store replaces the 105,000-square-foot Walmart store in the Moorland Square shopping center at 15333 W. National Ave. in New Berlin. That store’s last day of business was Monday.

The new store was built on a 16-acre site that Walmart acquired for about $5.3 million, according to state records. That site once included a Charcoal Grill restaurant.

Walmart has opened several stores in southeastern Wisconsin in recent years. Last year the company opened a new 140,000 store in the former Lowe’s building at 6300 W. Brown Deer Road in Brown Deer. The company also plans to build a Sam’s Club store at Bradley Road and North 124th Street in Milwaukee to replace the Sam’s Club store at 7701 W. Calumet Road.
