Aurora Health Care’s new 142,000-square-foot health center at 709 Spring Valley Road in Burlington will open to the public on Oct. 17.
The facility is called Aurora Health Center Southern Lakes.
In advance of its opening, the health care system is holding an open house for local residents to tour the building, meet the doctors who will be working there and get autographs from former Green Bay Packers Gilbert Brown, Ahman Green and William Henderson, who will be in attendance.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Aurora announced plans for the new facility in January 2014, spent $27.85 million to buy the 31.7-acre site and broke ground on the project in June 2015. The health care center will house 40 physicians, a total of 200 caregivers, a surgery center and a cancer center. An Aurora representative estimated the project cost a total of $82 million.
“Aurora Health Center Southern Lakes will bring more health care options to residents throughout the area,” said Lisa Just, president of Aurora Health Care’s western Racine and Walworth counties in a statement released Wednesday. “Expanded medical oncology services are a much needed service and are a feature at our new facility. We’re also thrilled to be able to provide more same-day surgery options to patients than ever before. This new facility has been in the works for several years, and it’s extremely rewarding to see this day finally arrive.”
The facility’s cancer center will include a healing garden for patients undergoing treatment, where they will have the option to receive aromatherapy, massages or a type of touch-based therapy called reiki to ease discomfort.
The Southern Lakes center will have an onsite laboratory, general imaging systems and a pharmacy. A staff of orthopedics, podiatry, audiology, and ear, neck and throat specialists will also be located at the new facility.
