GOP gubernatorial candidates Mark Neumann and Scott Walker are putting up new TV ads that tout their credentials as fiscal conservatives.
In Neumann’s spot, his fourth of the campaign, the former congressman says he fought so hard to cut spending while in the House that "my own party kicked me off the Appropriations Committee." The ad then cuts away to newspaper headlines from Neumann’s fight with GOP leaders, including one that reads "Freshman tangles with Gingrich on deficit."
"When I left in 1998, the budget was balanced, taxes were cut and jobs were being created," Neumann says. "Those same conservative solutions … they’ll solve Wisconsin’s problems today."
In his spot, Walker says he packs a brown bag lunch so he can afford to pay for things "like Wisconsin’s high taxes."
Walker says government should make tough decisions to live within its means like families do and that his campaign is based on three principles: "people create jobs, not government; smaller government is better government; and don’t spend more than you have."
