MPS hosts job fair for teachers today

As Milwaukee Public Schools seeks to fill between 75 and 100 teaching positions before the 2014-15 school year begins, the district will hold a job fair today for prospective applicants.

The hiring event, which will also include interview opportunities, will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at MPS’ North Division High School, located at 1011 W. Center St. in Milwaukee.

MPS’ teaching openings are mostly in middle school grades. Elementary grade levels and high school grades have some openings as well.

“Milwaukee Public Schools is looking for the best and brightest highly-qualified candidates who are interested in joining a team committed to improving outcomes for our students,” said Acting MPS Superintendent Darienne Driver. “We gladly welcome new educators and look forward to their contributions as we continue to accelerate student achievement.”

MPS offers teachers competitive salaries along with outlets and experiences that promote professional development and growth, the district said.

Residency is no longer required for district employment.

MPS’ need for teachers is down about 50 percent from last year, according to the district, in part due to the end of a three-year stretch of retirements and changes overseen by the MPS Office of Human Capital.
