Mortara Instrument plans to build warehouse near HQ

Milwaukee-based Mortara Instrument Inc. plans to build a 60,000-square-foot warehouse building at 8585 W. Bradley Road in Milwaukee, near its corporate headquarters at 7865 N. 86th St.

The 1.5-acre Bradley Road site has a 7,908-square-foot warehouse building and is owned by Glendale-based Glenbeigh Properties LLC, according to city records.

Mortara is asking the city to remove a deed restriction on the property that imposes certain building setback provisions. The request will be considered by the Common Council’s Public Works Committee on March 16.

Mortara Instrument is a cardiac equipment manufacturer. The company was founded in 1982. A representative for the company could not be reached to comment on the warehouse project.

Mortara has grown significantly of late. In October the company said it had added 145 employees during the previous 18 months and that it planned to add another 20 to 30 employees over the next year. The majority of the positions were added following Mortara’s April 2013 acquisition of the diagnostic cardiology line from Waukesha-based Cardiac Science. About 80 employees came to Mortara in the acquisition, and the other positions were added as a result of expansion. Last fall the company said it had 392 employees, 202 of whom are based in Milwaukee.

The company’s 72,000-square-foot headquarters facility in Milwaukee contains administration, sales, marketing, service, engineering and manufacturing. It also has another 50,000-square-foot building nearby, at 8220 W. Sleske Court, for additional manufacturing and shipping and receiving. Mortara also has locations in the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Australia, and a number of field personnel throughout the U.S.
