The number of passengers using Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee rose nearly ten percent in February, after recording a six percent increase in January.

According to statistics released by the Airport, 499,518 passengers used the airport in February, an increase of 9.8 percent from the 454,948 that used the airport in February 2015.airport traffic chart-aweiland-16/03/22

A 12 percent increase in Southwest Airlines passengers at Mitchell and new routes flown to the airport by Frontier Airlines contributed to the increase in passenger traffic at the airport, officials said.

All of the airport’s regularly scheduled airlines – including Southwest, Delta, American, United, Frontier, Alaska, Air Canada, and OneJet – saw an increase in passengers in February

“As more Milwaukee-based travelers choose their hometown airport, airlines will be more likely to add service here,” said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. “MKE is already the only airport in Wisconsin or Illinois with all the major domestic airlines, and continued increases in passengers like this can help us recruit more airlines and nonstop flights at MKE in the future.”

Mitchell International Airport offers nonstop flights to 38 destinations.

Airport officials also announced today that InMotion Entertainment, the largest U.S. airport retailer of entertainment and electronics, is now open on Concourses C and D at Mitchell International. The stores are the first in Wisconsin for InMotion Entertainment.

“Whether it’s more travel destinations, more airlines, or more options for dining, shopping, and entertainment, we’re always looking for ways to give passengers a better experience at Mitchell Airport,” Abele said.
