Brookfield-based Milwaukee Tool plans to nearly double the usable space in a new technology center it is building in Menomonee Falls. The company recently decided to increase the facility from around 120,000 square feet to 215,000 square feet by adding a mezzanine to the plans, a spokeswoman said. Foundation work on the project, located north of Good Hope Road between I-41 and Appleton Avenue in the Woodland Prime business park, is nearing completion and plans call for steel and precast concrete to go up in the spring. The company hopes to be under roof in August with occupancy in the first quarter of 2022. Milwaukee Tool has been among the fastest growing companies in the region in recent years as advances in battery technology have spurred new product innovations in cordless tools. The company completed several expansions on its Brookfield headquarters campus before announcing a second campus in Menomonee Falls in late 2019. Milwaukee Tool committed to investing $100 million in the campus and creating 870 jobs as part of a $20 million tax incentive package from the state. Company officials said at the time the campus could eventually reach up to 2.5 million square feet. The company already has operations in a 52,000-square-foot office building on the property and is now planning a larger technology center. The remaining 65-acre area Milwaukee Tool acquired for the campus is designated for future expansion. The company plans to begin site prep for future building projects on the property as soon as the second quarter of this year. BizTimes reporter Alex Zank contributed to this story.
