Milwaukee Public Market set new records for sales and visits in 2018

Both up 10 percent last year

The Milwaukee Public Market, located in the city’s Historic Third Ward, announced today that is gross sales and customer visits reached new highs in 2018.

Total vendor sales increased by 10 percent to $18.2 million, up from $16.5 million in 2017 and more than double the total sales at the Public Market in 2011 ($8.3 million). Total sales at the market were $5.2 million in 2008.

Customer visits were also up 10 percent in 2018 to 1.79 million, up from 1.63 million in 2017 and up from 1.17 million in 2012.

The Milwaukee Public Market’s gross sales per leasable square foot is now more than $1,400.

“It has been our goal to cultivate a food-centric placemaking experience like none other in the region, which I’m proud to say is now a reality. We’ve become a hub of social and economic activity, where regional residents and national travelers seek us out as a culinary destination,” said Paul Schwartz, executive director for the Milwaukee Public Market. “I’m enormously proud and grateful to our vendors, loyal customer-base and the hundreds of workers who are employed throughout the market that make the experience what it is today.”

The Milwaukee Public Market opened in 2005 and is owned and operated by the Historic Third Ward Business Improvement District. It was recently named one of the five best farmers markets in the U.S. by The Online Farmers Market.
