Milwaukee aldermen would no longer be able to hold liquor license applications indefinitely under proposed changes stemming from the scandal involving former Ald. Michael McGee.
The package, developed by the Alcohol Beverage Licensing Task Force, also requires that notices of an application be posted at the applicant’s facility and that residents near a license applicant be notified that the city of Milwaukee Licenses Committee is taking up the application.
McGee was convicted in 2008 of nine federal counts of extortion and bribery for shaking down businesses in order to gain favorable treatment from the licenses committee.
The reforms, approved by the City Council’s Licenses Committee, will be considered by the full council on May 5.
