Rep. Jason Fields (D-Milwaukee) has introduced legislation to require youth athletes suspected of suffering a concussion to be evaluated by health care professionals.
The legislation, passed in similar forms in 11 other states, would also require athletes, coaches and parents to be educated on concussion symptoms.
“Concussions among professional athletes get a great deal of attention, but studies have found it is the young athlete who is more susceptible to the effects and often take longer to recover from a concussion,” Fields said.
