Milwaukee County executive candidates are loading up their campaigns with election veterans.
Two of Tom Barrett’s campaign hands from his gubernatorial race have been hired to help out with philanthropist Chris Abele’s campaign. Phil Walzak, who was Barrett’s chief spokesman, is Abele’s campaign manager. Pat Gurasci, who worked as a fundraiser for Barrett, is working in a similar role for Abele.
Kory Kozloski, formerly executive director for the State Senate Democratic Committee, will manage former state Dem Sen. Jim Sullivan’s county exec bid, and former Barrett campaign aide Gillian Morris will be communications director.
GOP Rep. Jeff Stone has hired Vi Rowley Hammelman to run his county exec campaign. She was a finance director for former Gov. Tommy Thompson. Stone has also hired Justin Phillips to serve as his associate campaign manager. Phillips previously worked with the Republican Governor’s Association, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner and state Sen. Alberta Darling.
The campaign of acting County Exec Lee Holloway did not return a call this morning inquiring about his staff.
