The state Department of Transportation has stripped Milwaukee auto wholesaler Cuzco Auto Mart of its wholesale license after an investigation determined the company altered mileage on 136 vehicles.
An order from the Department of Administration’s Division of Hearings and Appeals, said the representatives of the business, located at 5032 W. Forest Home Ave., did not show up for a hearing in December.
According to the order, DOT investigators determined Cuzco Auto Mart purchased 136 vehicles at auction and then resold the vehicles after tampering with odometers and changing title information to reflect lower mileage.
In total, Cuzco shaved 9,138,966 miles off of the 136 vehicles, an average of more than 67,000 per vehicle.
The vehicles were then sold directly to Illinois retail customers. Cuzco does not have an Illinois used vehicle license, according to the order.
The order says the case was “filled with revocable violations” and “the sheer volume of these violations prompted DOT to summarily suspend Cuzco’s license immediately.”
