Millennial Train to stop in Milwaukee next week

The Millennial Trains Project, a train-based business incubator, will chug into Milwaukee next week so young professionals can get a taste for the city’s business and cultural attributes.

Social architecture firm NEWaukee is sponsoring the Milwaukee tour, which will include activities highlighting innovation, the Global Water initiative, the redevelopment of the Menomonee Valley, cultural institutions and NEWaukee’s creative placemaking project on West Wisconsin Avenue.

Events will take place at Marquette University, the Urban Ecology Center, the Global Water Center and the Stone Creek Coffee Factory. Attendees will hear from new Marquette University President Dr. Michael Lovell and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, attend a panel discussion by Innovation in Milwaukee, take a Bublr bike tour, learn about the Global Water Center form Dean Amhaus and attend the NEWaukee Night Market, among other events.

Two Milwaukee millennials were chosen to ride on the crowdfunded mobile business incubator, which brings together diverse groups of entrepreneurial, creative and civic-minded millennials to travel the country learning about new cities and participating in on-train seminars, workshops and mentor sessions.

The U.S. Small Business Administration will provide information sessions and mentorships to small business owners and entrepreneurs both on the train and at the stops, which include Portland, Seattle, Whitefish, Mont., St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago and New York City.

The journey started yesterday and the millennials will be in Milwaukee on August 12 and 13.
