The Russell Military Museum, located along I-94 just south of the Wisconsin-Illinois state line, recently purchased a 35,000-square-foot building at 2933 105th St. in Sturtevant for $970,000 in a sheriff’s sale.
The previous owner of the building was Robert O. Wright. The property has an assessed value of $1.52 million, according to Racine County records.
Mark Sonday, the owner of the museum, said he has not decided what to do with the Sturtevant building. It is currently occupied by Allwright Moving Systems.
“We’ll probably let the stay there and do their thing,” Sonday said. “I think they’re a good tenant.”
Sonday said he has no plans to move the Russell Military Museum to the Sturtevant building. In the future the building might be used by the museum for storage he said.
The museum, which features a large collection of military equipment, was previously called the Kenosha Military Musuem and was located in Pleasant Prairie, but it moved south as village officials took efforts to improve the I-94 corridor and worked to remove the museum and some adult book stores.
