Milwaukee-based metal fabricator seeks MEDC loan

Midwest Stairs & Iron Inc., a Milwaukee-based metal fabricator, plans to move to a larger building, more than double the size of its existing location, and add up to 15 employees over the next two years.

Midwest Orchard LLC, the real estate holding company for Midwest Stairs & Iron, located at 679 S. 76th St., has applied for a $652,000 loan from the Milwaukee Economic Development Corp. to purchase a 54,500-square-foot building at 4160 S. 13th St.

Howard Wurgler, president of Midwest Stairs & Iron, said he plans on closing on the purchase of the 13th Street building at the end of October. The purchase price is $1.6 million. The city of Milwaukee has assessed the property at $1.05 million.

Midwest Stairs & Iron Inc. has been in operation for 10 years. It currently employs 46 people in the 20,800-square-foot location on South 76th Street.

The MEDC loan and finance committee will vote tomorrow on the loan request.
