Michael Best to open new office in Washington

Milwaukee-based Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is expanding from its Midwest base and opening a Washington, D.C., office.
Michael Best’s new office will be located at 601 Pennsylvania Ave. NW and will focus on the areas of energy, environmental, intellectual property, food and agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration.

“Establishing a Washington, D.C., presence is a natural step in our firm’s growth. The ever-changing regulatory environment in the areas of energy, environmental policy, and food and agriculture makes it important to have a physical presence where the key policymakers, regulators and government investigators are located to better serve our client base,” said David Krutz, managing partner at Michael Best.

New Michael Best partner Daniel Sanford will lead the firm’s Washington office. Sanford has nearly 40 years of experience working in the utility arena in both gas and electric, most recently as deputy general counsel of the American Transmission Company, where he also served as interim general counsel and corporate secretary.

Michael Best attorneys Anna Wildeman (environmental law), Brian J. N. Marstall (intellectual property) and patent scientist John Stanko, Ph.D. (intellectual property) will initially staff the firm’s new Washington office.

“The Michael Best team has a wealth of experience representing clients’ regulatory needs and my experience is a great complement to the deep knowledge that already exists at the firm,” Sanford said.  “I am energized and excited to be a part of expanding Michael Best to Washington, D.C.”
