Germantown-based MGS Mfg. Group Inc. plans to add 121,000 square feet to its headquarters campus along Maple Road, according to documents submitted to the village.
The expansion would allow the company, which specializing in plastic injection molding and automation, to bring warehousing operations from Oak Creek to Germantown. Paul Manley, president of MGS, said the lease on the Oak Creek facility, located just south of Ryan Road along the interstate, is up in the fall of 2021.
The shift will add around 10 jobs across three shifts to the Germantown operation.
At the same time, MGS is also laying the ground work for a second phase of the expansion, which would add another 118,000 square feet of manufacturing space on the campus and fill out the remaining available space on the property.
Manley said work likely would not start on the second phase until the spring of 2022.
The first phase would be an addition on the southern end of the property and off the east side of the existing molding building. The second phase would then be built to the east of the addition, closer to Maple Road.
Germantown’s plan commission is scheduled to consider site development plans for the expansion this evening. The agenda also includes a certified survey map and a request to vacate Moldmakers Way, a road that runs between the MGS headquarters and tooling building and the main manufacturing facility to the west.
MGS has invested significantly in its Germantown campus in recent years, announcing a $20 million project to create a health care center of excellence in 2019. The project also brought 115 jobs to the campus from Illinois and added cleanroom space.
Since the mid-2000s, MGS has grown its business in the health care space, including most recently working to rapidly produce components for coronavirus testing.
Manley said work and production continues on the testing front, but the company is also beginning to see some activity in the drug delivery space in advance of a potential COVID-19 vaccine.
