Germantown-based MGS Mfg. Group Inc., has created two new products for its line of equipment of universal multishot systems (UMS). UMS equipment is typically sold to plastic injection molders who want to convert single-shot machines to multishot systems, which allows manufacturers to create more complex injection moldings.
The new lines of equipment were developed at the request of global customers, said Rebecca Reed, marketing manager for MGS, and are designed for use with MGS’ portable injection units.
“The new line is what will rotate the mold so that it can turn and do a second shot of material,” Reed said. “They are used with the portable injection unit to create the multishot process.”
MGS’ new systems are called rotating platens. The company has created two different types of rotating platens, the OEM Rotary Platens and Econoline Rotary Platens. The Econoline model is available now, and the OEM line will be available by June, Reed said.
MGS Mfg. is an engineering and design firm that builds specialty machinery for the injection molding market. The company also provides injection molding services for clients such as Rubbermaid, Illinois Tool Works, Sanford Corp., and more from its facilities in Germantown, Illinois and Mexico.
In early 2008, MGS had more than 500 workers in its Germantown facilities. In the last month, the company has had to lay off a small number of workers, but Reed could not give the exact number.
“Due to the economy we’ve had to make some adjustments,” she said. “Things are still moving along and progressing, but things have been a little slow. We’re making adjustments to ensure the future success of the company.”
