Meijer to hire 100 for Pleasant Prairie distribution center

Meijer Inc. said it plans to hire 100 employees to work at the regional distribution center that it will open this summer in Pleasant Prairie. Eventually there will be more than 300 employees working there.

To fill the positions, Meijer, in partnership with the Kenosha Area Business Alliance and Gateway Technical College, will host a hiring blitz on Tuesday, April 1 from 2 – 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 2 from 8:30 – 1 p.m. at the SC Johnson iMet Center in Sturtevant.

In 2012, Meijer bought the former Supervalu distribution center, located on the east side of Highway 31 between state Highways 50 and 165 in Pleasant Prairie. Meijer is expanding the facility from 580,000 square feet to 800,000 square feet.

The facility is expected be operational this summer and will serve Meijer stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, and perhaps others states.

Grand Rapid, Mich.-based Meijer plans to open several stores in southeastern Wisconsin, with locations planned in Grafton, Sussex, Wauwatosa, Waukesha, Oak Creek, Greenfield and Pleasant Prairie. Each Meijer store is about 192,000 square feet in size and sells groceries and general merchandise.
