Meijer drops plans for store in Franklin

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc., which plans to build several stores in the Milwaukee area, has dropped its plans for a store in Franklin, the city’s director of administration Mark Luberda said.

The Franklin store would have been located east of Highway 100 and Loomis Road. But much of the site is covered with wetlands and Meijer was unable to create a viable store plan that would get the approval from the state Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The company also had not received approval from the state Department of Transportation. Its plans had been approved by the city.

“They haven’t been able to fit a store on the site with the constrictions of the parcel,” Luberda said.
Meijer is still working on plans for stores in Oak Creek, Wauwatosa, Sussex, Grafton and Kenosha.
