Meijer buys site for Sussex store

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc. recently purchased a 40-acre site near Sussex, for $5.3million, where it plans to build a 192,000-square-foot store and a gas station.

 
The property, located at N51 W24799 Lisbon Road, was sold by Steven Schellin. Meijer plans to have the site annexed to the Village of Sussex for development of the store.

Meijer stores have large grocery departments and general merchandise departments.

The company currently has no stores in Wisconsin, but plans to enter the southeastern Wisconsin market with stores in Sussex, Oak Creek, Grafton, Wauwatosa, Waukesha and Kenosha. The company has been acquiring sites for those stores recently.

Meijer recently purchased six properties totaling 21.5 acres at the southeast corner of 76th Street and Green Bay Road in Kenosha for $4.2 million, according to state records. Meijer also recently acquired three properties in Wauwatosa, south of Burleigh Street between Mayfair Road and U.S. Highway 45, with a combined 14.6 acres and 200,614 square feet of industrial space, for $5.8 million, according to state records.
