Medical College to build new office building

The Medical College of Wisconsin announced today that it plans to build a 225,000-square-foot office building on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus in Wauwatosa.

The seven- to eight-story building will cost between $70 million and $79 million to construct. It will be built on the north side of Connell Avenue between the Medical College’s Education Building and Dynacare.

The building will create a new workspace for the Medical College’s physician faculty and their administrative staff. The building will house up to 1,200 Medical College faculty and staff members. It will not be utilized for patient care.

“This new building is an investment in MCW’s long-term health and growth,” said Joseph E. Kerschner, executive vice president of the Medical College of Wisconsin and dean of the school of medicine. “It will bring the clinicians together and in closer proximity to our research, educational and community engagement endeavors.”

“A professional office building will address the needs and priorities of MCW and of our clinical partners, while creating a collaborative workplace and also being good stewards of our land and financial resources,” said John R. Raymond, Sr., president and CEO of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Design work is scheduled to begin this summer. The project is expected to take two years to complete. The Medical College is exploring financing options with its board of trustees.
